Disaster Relief Case Studies

Turkiye Earthquake Case Study

On February 6, Turkey was hit by 2 devastating earthquakes. More than 59,000 people died and hundreds of thousands of locals were severely affected.

The earthquake hit an area almost equal to the size of the UK, so it was challenging to bring clean water to the earthquake relief facilities like toilets, showers, and mobile kitchens/hospitals. But immediate access to water is paramount for the health and well-being of survivors.

That’s why we donated three of our tanks to help the relief efforts and we shared a call for help on social media to overcome the logistical challenges of getting the tanks from Wales to Turkey. The post on social media had 28.1 million views in the first couple of days.

Our call received immense support:

1. Turkish Central government coordinating directly with us.

2. The private sector and NGOs reached out to amplify the support. That’s why we scaled up our initial project and ended up supplying 15 water tanks to be used in displacement facilities deployed for the survivors in the region.

3. 254 supporters donated to raise £19,854 to bring more units to the disaster areas.

We worked in collaboration with the local authorities to service suitable projects to maximise the use of our tanks. We’ve also shared some of our technical data and drawings as open source. We continue to encourage local suppliers to work on improving access to water in the disaster zone.
